How Purpose-Driven Leadership Can Transform Logistics and Sustainability | Rob Safrata

On your favorite podcast platforms:

What happens when business growth and environmental responsibility become part of the same strategy? For entrepreneur Rob Safrata, the answer starts with putting people, planet, and profit in that order, then finding practical ways to make businesses better.

Hosted by Enrique Alvarez and Paul Courtney, this conversation explores Rob’s journey as an entrepreneur and leader across logistics, travel experiences, and clean energy. As the CEO of purpose-driven companies, Rob shares how curiosity, lifelong learning, and a willingness to challenge conventional thinking have shaped his approach to business.

A central theme is the **triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit**. Rob explains how sustainability can strengthen a business rather than compete with commercial success. After acquiring Novex Delivery Solutions, he worked to reduce its environmental footprint by helping drivers transition from conventional vehicles to hybrids and electric vehicles. The company reduced its footprint by more than 59%, demonstrating how operational changes can deliver measurable results.

His experience with Coast to Coast Experiences revealed another challenge. Electrifying a fleet of tour buses required more than good intentions. Vehicle costs and charging infrastructure made the transition difficult, prompting Rob to explore broader solutions. That experience helped inspire Fuse Power Management, which works with fleets across sectors, including delivery, film production, and school transportation, to support electrification.

Rob also shares lessons on leadership and change management. When he began introducing sustainability initiatives, some employees saw change as criticism of the way they had always worked. Rather than relying on command-and-control leadership, he focused on listening, education, and helping people understand the reasons behind new approaches. His message is that lasting change happens when people understand the purpose and choose to participate.

The conversation also highlights the value of measuring impact. Rob encourages business leaders to begin with a sustainability audit, identify the most important opportunities, and start with practical improvements. Even relatively simple actions, such as installing motion-sensor lighting or reducing unnecessary heating, can help cut waste and costs.

Looking ahead, Rob believes sustainability will continue to advance as technology improves and businesses recognize the operational and financial benefits. He also emphasizes the importance of engaged leadership, transparent measurement, and sharing progress with others. Whether a company is considering fleet electrification or making its first environmental improvements, the starting point is the same: understand where you are, identify what can change, and take the next step.
